Davenport tops Reardan in district playoff

DAVENPORT-When rival schools Davenport and Reardan faced off for the second time this season 12 days ago, neither team managed a goal until the final minute. In the rubber match in the District 7 2B playoffs Tuesday, the Gorillas scored decidedly quicker.

The fast start helped Davenport beat Reardan 3-1 to secure third place in District 7 and clinch a home crossover match with Brewster of District 6 to play for a state berth.

Glenna Soliday took a pass from Samantha Stiles and shot a rocket into the net 10 minutes into the game.

All told, Soliday scored three goals on assists from Stiles in the game's first 46 minutes to effectively put the game away early for Davenport.

"Being faster, getting the 50/50 balls, taking the wide-open space and passing to Samantha," Soliday said of the keys to the team's fast start. "We did a lot of give-and-gos."

Noelle Raczykowski, who was double, triple and even sextuple-teamed by Gorillas all game, hit a long shot from the right side to get the Screaming Eagles on the board with 5:58 remaining, but it was too little too late for Reardan.

"They got a couple early goals in the first half so we switched things around, changed our formation up and that seemed to kind of help," Reardan coach Heaven Berarducci said.

Reardan still has a chance to play its way into the state tournament at Tonasket at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

Davenport will host the Brewster Bears at the same time with the same stakes.

"We just need to be aggressive," Davenport coach Monty Soliday said. "We've got to be physical...If we're physical and fast, we'll do well."
