Davenport boys finish fifth at state

Wynecoop 6th for girls, Jacobsen 7th for boys

PASCO-After an admittedly disappointing 10th place finish at the 1B/2B State Cross Country Championships in 2021, the Davenport boys had double the fun this year. The Gorillas finished fifth as a team in the 5,000 meter race at Sun Willows Golf Course.

Meanwhile, freshman Josie Wynecoop completed the course in 20:34.8 to finish sixth individually in the girls race. Fellow District 7 runner Josie McLaughlin of St. George's won the race.

Junior Jaeger Jacobsen had the best race for the Davenport boys, finishing seventh overall with a time of 17:15.9.

Sophomore Gabe Branstetter was Reardan's lone representative in Pasco and finished 61st with a time of 19:01.3.

Senior Jesse Raugust ran a time of 18:27.6 for 36th place and senior Trevor Lenocker was just behind at 18:28.9 for 37th place for Davenport. Fellow seniors Zack Bruce and Brenick Soliday were 51st and 70th with times of 18:47.5 and 19:21 respectively.

Freshman Kyler Davenport was 82nd at 19:33.2 and senior Grayson Danekas finished 116th at 20:15.1.

Chewelah won first place overall for the boys. The top five was rounded out by Pope John Paul II, St. George's and Liberty Bell.

The top five girls teams were Pope John Paul II, Garfield-Palouse, St. George's, Liberty Bell and Rainier.
