Santa Claus comes to Harrington

Hometown Christmas offers nostalgia

HARRINGTON- Mr. and Mrs. Claus stopped by the beautifully lit Harrington Opera House during Hometown Christmas Saturday, Dec. 3. Many parents and youngsters seemed relieved that the sun was shining even if it was bitterly cold.

Santa Claus asked each child what they wanted and was surprised to hear an iPhone 14 as he tucked the request on paper in his pocket.

Mrs. Claus handed out goodie bags to each child after they visited with Santa.

Karen Robertson took pictures of the children with Santa and welcomed the families to join in.

Meanwhile, Memorial Hall looked like a sea of red, green and gold with tablecloths, poinsettias and Christmas-themed merchandise.

There were plenty of homemade trinkets to take home as Christmas gifts for holiday shoppers.

A cookie decorating was taking place right next to Memorial Hall hosted by the Harrington Booster Club. Kids were welcomed in to decorate as their parents shopped.

Free hayrides were offered for those willing to brave the cold temperatures outside.

The Chamber of Commerce hosted crafts with kids during the early afternoon.

Heather Slack decorated the Post & Office with Christmas-themed merchandise and shoppers had warm coffee to combat the cold winter day.

Paula Harrington's Studio 1 had various gift ideas and holiday music playing through the corridor.

The FFA hosted wreath selling and poinsettia selling at the back of the school in the ag building.

They also sold Hot Cocoa for shoppers and visitors alike.

The Harrington School band hosted a soup bar for those that needed a little extra warmth after the hot chocolate.

The local library had its grand re-opening after forming a new board and finding a new librarian in recent months.

Rebecca Hardy's Studio provided live music downtown and live music was played later by local musicians.

The festivities concluded with tree lighting and Christmas caroling at dusk.
