Gorilla boys open with win

Davenport gets road victory at Lake Roosevelt

COULEE DAM—A 2022-23 season with state playoff expectations and hopes got off to a good start for the local boys basketball team, which defeated the Lake Roosevelt Raiders on the road 70-56 Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Unsurprisingly, Davenport was led in scoring by senior Tennessee Rainwater, who had 30 points. Second was junior Jaeger Jacobsen, whose sharp shooting from the outside led to 18 points.

Cash Colbert added 11 points for the Gorillas.

The third quarter was where Davenport earned separation. The Gorillas outscored the Raiders 24-14 in the period after the two squads were tied 26-26 at halftime.

A 20-15 scoring advantage for Davenport in the fourth quarter only broadened the Gorillas’ final win margin.

Davenport will be at home this week with an important league matchup against the Northwest Christian Crusaders, who earned a state playoff berth last year. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
