Tiger hoopsters fall to Cusick Panthers

Tigers stymied by top-ranked 1B team

ODESSA - The Tigers lost against the Cusick Panthers 63-44 on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The first quarter ended with the Tigers down by 15, with Cusick leading 19-4.

However, Cusick came back with a lay-up early in the second quarter.

The Tigers increased momentum throughout the second quarter but fell back behind, with Cusick leading 30-15 by halftime.

The start of the third quarter was a back-and-forth battle for Odessa to get the upper hand. For every attempted three-pointer made by the Tigers, Cusick came back with its own.

Within the third quarter's first three minutes, Odessa scored five points and Cusick four. The score had been 34-20 and the Tigers fought to catch up, but by the end of the third quarter, Cusick led 50-32.

The fourth quarter brought more back and forth, with the Tigers still fighting to catch up.

The Panthers were able to score 13 more points, while Odessa scored 12 more points.

Juniors Jacob Scrupps and Zach Claassen led Odessa Saturday. Scrupps scored 18 points and had three rebounds. Claassen scored 10 points and had five rebounds.

Sophomore Corbyn Neilsen and Senior Gage Starkel both scored six points each.

Junior Dakota Steward had nine rebounds.

Odessa will face Waterville in its next home game on Friday, Dec. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
