Stedman's replacement still pending
DAVENPORT-Six Lincoln County elected officials were sworn into office in the commissioner's chambers Tuesday, Dec. 27 and are prepared to begin four-year terms at the beginning of 2023.
Superior Court Judge Jeffrey S. Barkdull swore in Assessor J Scott Liebing, Prosecuting Attorney Adam Walser, Treasurer Emily Lybbert Hansen, Commissioner Rob Coffman, District Court Judge Dan B. Johnson and Clerk Traci Gants.
Liebing, Walser, Johnson and Gants ran unopposed for election. Hansen defeated Brad Sweet and Pete Brickner in a race to succeed Jody Howard as Treasurer, while Coffman knocked off Jason Debord in his successful bid for re-election as District No. 3 Commissioner.
Hansen and Gants have both worked in their respective offices for years, but are newcomers to the elected positions of Treasurer and Clerk.
Sheriff Gabe Gants and Auditor Chandra Schumacher weren't sworn in Tuesday, as they had already been sworn into their respective offices.
The commissioners had recessed their regular meeting Dec. 19 to Tuesday in hopes of further discussions regarding District No. 1 Commissioner Mark Stedman's replacement and approving the 2023 budget.
The latter did occur Tuesday, but the Lincoln County Republican Central Committee has yet to complete its interviews of the four applicants for Stedman's soon-to-be vacant job, commissioner Scott Hutsell said. Those interviews are expected to be conducted at the end of the week, and Hutsell he said an appointment will be made either Jan. 3 or Jan. 17 at a regular commissioner's meeting.
