DAVENPORT-After a tough loss to Liberty nine days ago while shorthanded, the Gorilla boys got back on track with three dominant wins over Kettle Falls, Asotin and Chewelah this week.

The Bulldogs up north were the first domino to fall in the streak Friday, Jan. 6. Davenport routed Kettle Falls 78-49 behind 26 points from Tennessee Rainwater, who returned to the lineup after missing the Liberty game with an illness.

Asotin was next up a day later. The struggling Panthers put up a fight in the first half as Davenport came out sluggishly on offense. The Gorillas led just 28-20 at halftime.

The second half was a different story, as the Gorillas pulled away to led by 12 points after three quarters before putting the Panthers to bed in the fourth quarter in a 66-40 decision.

"They kind of leaned on each other and were just as focused as they've been, so I was happy with the response tonight," Davenport head coach Matt Henry said.

Winless Chewelah was the final victim in the three-game Gorilla onslaught Tuesday, Jan. 10. The contest wasn't exactly that, as the boys took a 22-4 lead after one quarter before leading 42-16 at intermission.

All 12 Gorillas that dressed for the game were able to see action in a dominant 74-31 decision over the Cougars, with nine players finding the scorer's book.

The schedule gets much tougher now. Davenport hosts Colfax at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 before heading to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague the next day. Colfax and LRS should be two of the toughest league opponents the Gorillas face this season.

"We have to play our game. It's going to start on defense, and the defense will lead to offense," Rainwater said. "We have to do what we do, and we have to do it well."
