Hardy Hardware still plans Ace transition

DAVENPORT - Inventory and financial issues persist, but locally-owned Hardy Hardware still plans to make a transition to join the Ace Hardware franchise, executive assistant Kayla Meise said Wednesday, Jan. 25.

However, the move may come a few months later than planned. Ownership previously said in October that there was a goal of an April grand opening, but August is now a more realistic timeline, Meise said.

"We'll have to close for a couple months to clean out the store," Meise said.

That closure is likely to occur this summer prior to the grand opening, she said.

In addition to the aforementioned issues, the business is also dealing with a suit filed in Lincoln County Superior Court Tuesday, Jan. 10 by Beacon Sales Acquisition, a Delaware-based company accusing Hardy Hardware of failing to make a monthly payment of $1,180 agreed to in a settlement and release agreement last May, court documents state.

"One payment of $1,000 was made, but no payments have been received since September 2022," the suit accuses.

Beacon Sales Acquisition is seeking judgment of $13,159.70, plus interest, court costs and attorney fees, according to court documents.

Meise said the accusations are accurate and said the store's prior owner created this issue by putting a bunch of lumber sales with Beacon Sales on the store's credit card and not informing current ownership of the outstanding balance.

"We never got any statements," she said. "Just demand letters."

If the store can resolve the issues it currently faces, the Ace transition should be in place by this fall, ownership believes...just not on the timeline originally planned.
