Senior Center to receive Coronavirus relief funds

Council discusses airport issue

DAVENPORT- City council passed a resolution to grant $10,000 to the Senior Center under the American Rescue Plan Act at its meeting Wednesday, Jan 25.

On Jan. 12, the local Senior Center temporarily closed their doors because of the economy, cost of fuel, cost of food and past COVID restrictions. Senior Center president Carl Clark submitted a grant request to the city, which received federal funds to distribute to non-profit organizations affected by Covid-19.

These funds would allow the Senior Center to resume providing meals to senior citizens.

In other business, Capital Rivers CEO Greg Aguirre took part at the council meeting via Zoom Streaming, requesting the council lower fees for the AirLift Northwest hangar at the airport, which he called "extreme."

He stated a proposed increase in fees was unfair and "retaliatory," and mandated by the city because of legal fees incurred to review a consent agreement he submitted regarding the airport project.

The council tabled his request while they gathered further information.

Aguirre stated the increase in fees "may be retaliatory," and demanded the council issue an apology for the defamation of his character and insinuating he offered a bribe to the city. He requested the city make it known his agreement to pay $2,000 for the city's legal counsel was not an admission of guilt.
