REARDAN - The Reardan Edwall Communities Alliance for Prevention Coalition (RECAP) held a Stargazing Family Night Out event, which drew approximately 200 people, at the Inland Northwest Rail Museum Tuesday, March 21,.
The event, co-sponsored by the Middle School Science Department, was part of the "family night out" series, the goal of which is to bring families together to take part in a monthly drug free activity that is both fun and educational.
The event was a hands-on experience that allowed students to create phases of the moon from Oreo cookies, and the solar system from colored beads.
"Tonight, the kids learned about astronaut food and made solar system maps," coalition coordinator Darren Mattozzi said. "We had an astronomy group here so the kids could look at stars through telescopes and identify constellations."
Middle school science teacher Teresa Vesneske was pleased with the turnout and grateful for the participants' interest in science.
