Hall to direct Broadband Office

New office starts in April

DAVENPORT — Former Economic Development Council Director Margie Hall will return to a Lincoln County position. The County Commissioners unanimously approved a motion Monday, March 20 to appoint Hall as director of the fledgling Lincoln County Broadband Office.

The motion put Hall in the position effective Monday, April 3.

Commissioner Rob Coffman immediately motioned to appoint Hall after fellow commissioner Scott Hutsell mentioned Hall would accept the position for an annual salary of $95,000 with a $5,000 raise after two years “if things go well.”

“She will work hand-in-hand with the EDC, Petrichor and oversee the transition of the all the things EDC has been doing to the Broadband Office,” Hutsell said.

Later Monday, the finance committee of Hutsell, treasurer Emily Lybbert Hansen and auditor Chandra Schumacher approved a motion to loan $200,000 from the special funded projects to fund the Broadband Office.

The special funded projects budget has loaned money to help fund new vehicles and the self-insurance medical program Lincoln County used to operate under, Hutsell later clarified.

“As the Broadband Office generates revenue, which it will, we’ll use that to pay off that loan back into special funded projects,” Hutsell said.

The Broadband Office will operate in an office on the third floor of the county courthouse.

In other commissioner business Monday, the commissioners and prosecuting attorney Adam Walser agreed that public defender David Hearrean would create the rotating list of indigent public counsel now required by a state Supreme Court ruling, as opposed to local judges making each appointment themselves.

Superior Court Judge Jeffrey S. Barkdull and District Court Judge Dan B. Johnson asked the commissioners to make that list in early March.
