Local FFA team qualifies for nationals

School says it's chapter's first berth

DAVENPORT - For what is believed to be the first time in chapter history, the local FFA team qualified for nationals with a state championship in nursery landscape last week.

The team "maintained its lengthy lead on the competition" at the state competition in Snohomish March 24, advisor Todd Hargrave told the school board Monday, March 27.

"We've looked through all the old yearbooks and don't see anything about any other team here qualifying for nationals," Hargrave said.

Individually, Tanner Zaugg finished first, Ryan Utley finished second, Chase Zellmer finished third and Shelby Hargrave finished seventh for Davenport.

The second team had a top-10 finish at state as well, finishing in seventh place.

The chapter will now begin practicing and fundraising for the national competition, which is in Indianapolis in October.
