Construction begins on Highway 2

Pilot cars from Rocklyn to Creston

DAVENPORT — A spring of construction waiting and following pilot cars on a section of U.S. Highway 2 is back for the second straight year. After repaving work was done between Reardan and Davenport last spring, work began Monday, April 17 on a 15-mile stretch between Rocklyn and Creston.

According to a press release from the Department of Transportation, workers are rehabilitating the highway’s surface with HMA grind and inlay to smooth out highway travel. Workers will also perform crack sealing, centerline painting and rumble strip installation on the highway.

Pavement is also being repaired at the Telford Rest Area parking lot.

The press release said the project is expected to last 35 working days. Single lane closures are expected, and traffic will be led through the work zone by pilot cars.

Work begins at Rocklyn Road into Creston town limits. Rocklyn Road is about five miles west of Davenport.

The state-funded project costs $3.8 million and will continue into the summer, according to the Department of Transportation.
