Gorillas, Reardan split a pair

Davenport, Reardan each win one

DAVENPORT - The runs came almost as often as the weather changed in a doubleheader between the host Gorillas and visiting Reardan Screaming Eagles. Reardan took the first game 21-4, then Davenport exacted some revenge with a 20-10 win in the second game Tuesday, April 18.

The Screaming Eagles poured the runs on the first game. Jaylynn Nave led the way with three hits, while Colleen Ellis added two.

Davenport managed a home run from Katelyn Bell and received two hits from Kiera Katz but couldn't catch up to the Reardan onslaught.

The Screaming Eagles managed four runs in the first inning, five in the second, three in the third and nine in the fourth before the game was called due to mercy rule.

The weather couldn't make up its mind at the beginning of the second game, as the Gorillas jumped out to a 4-2 first inning lead.

Snowflakes and wind began to swirl around the diamond, before sun briefly shone on the backs of the competitors.

A sudden graupel attack surprised players, coaches and spectators alike, but the sun was soon back to take the game home.

Reardan took a 6-5 lead after two innings and led 8-6 after three innings, but the Davenport bats caught fire with a 12-run fourth inning. The Gorillas won 20-10 after five innings.

The Gorillas hit three home runs in the second game, with Katz, Bell and Faith Bell connecting on dingers. Samantha Stiles had a double and Faith Suttenfield had two singles for the Gorillas. Emma Cash and Astraya Sosa toed the mound in the win.

Reardan managed just four hits in the second game but took advantage of six Davenport errors to score 10 runs.

Davenport is now 3-7 and Reardan is 1-9 following the doubleheader. Reardan is in Colfax at 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, while the Gorillas are in Kettle Falls at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22.
