Diamond teams prepare for postseason

DAVENPORT—Graduation and summer approaches, and local baseball and softball teams are getting ready to take aim at postseason runs. All four local varsity teams were still alive as of press time.

Odessa baseball qualified for the District 7/9 1B tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Columbia (Hunters) 24-1 and 25-3 Tuesday, May 2. The Tigers will likely be the No. 4 seed out of District 7 and will face an undetermined opponent in either Spangle or Colbert Saturday, May 13.

Reardan baseball was off this week, but the Screaming Eagles were preparing for a District 7 first-round, loser-out matchup against Liberty that began after press time Thursday, May 4. The winner of that contest advanced to take on Asotin at 4 p.m. later that day.

Davenport softball wrapped up its regular season with doubleheader losses to Chewelah 24-0 and 20-7 Saturday, April 29 and to Liberty 13-1 and 14-0 Monday, May 1. Reardan softball was off, but takes on Asotin in a home doubleheader Tuesday, May 9.

The Gorillas and Screaming Eagles will play each other in a district qualifying matchup Saturday, May 13, with the site currently undetermined.
