Textile lovers flood Odessa

ODESSA - The Fling Quilt Show hosted what was believed to be a record number of visitors April 28-29. A total count was not available at press time, but estimates are a doubling in attendance numbers from previous years.

Show organizers from Fronen Steppdecker, Odessa Quilty Club credited the draw of national noted quilters, Charisma Horton and Rob Appell, and a growing following of the Odessa Quilt Show for the attendance increase.

Quilts entered from across the Inland Northwest were voted on by show attendees, resulting in the following ribbon and prize awards.

• Favorite Large Quilt: Deana Zay, Moses Lake

• Favorite Wall Quilt: Terry Engleman, Spokane

• Favorite Lap Quilt: Lisa Sandegren, Mohler

• Favorite Embroidered Quilt: Lois Walker, Moses Lake

• Favorite Antique Quilt: Norma Buchanan, Moses Lake

• Favorite Pieced Quilt: Shanie Veenendahl, Deer Park

• Favorite Applique Quilt: Mary Kunkle, Moses Lake

• Best Hand Quilted Quilt: Florence Coffey, Spokane

• Best Hand Guided Machine Quilting: Sherrie Thompson, Spokane

• Best Computer Aided Machine Quilting: Claudia Graham, Lamona

• Favorite Challenge Quilt: Debbie Buscher, Odessa.

The Mayor's Award went to Veernendahl for her Scrappy Pineapple quilt and the Student Voting Award went to Kunkle for her "Covid Cow" quilt.

The show also included five quilting supply venders, a Hoffman Fabric Challenge Trunk Show and quilting demonstrations. Attendees were entered in door prize drawings with drawings throughout the day, and grand prizes drawn at shows end. The raffle quilt was won by Patricia Gies of Odessa.
