Jay A. Scrupps, 72, passed away April 28, 2023 in Spokane, Wash. Jay was an ornery, lifetime resident of Odessa, Wash. He was born on Oct. 13, 1950 in Odessa, Wash. to James and Esther Scrupps. Jay attended all 12 yrs. of school in Odessa graduating in 1969, then attended Spokane Falls Community College where he played basketball, his favorite sport. Jay was a former Odessa Fire Commissioner and Ritzville Warehouse Board Member. Jay enjoyed sports, his Corvettes, following his grandkids, and spending time with family and friends. At one point, he held many official and unofficial records, to include the Odessa 800-m sprint record, Odessa’s State-B basketball single game scoring total, the ‘Odessa Land Speed Record’ and ‘Most Rocks Picked in His Field’. Jay’s moves to Abba’s “Dancing Queen” on wedding dance floors were legendary. Jay is survived by three sons Walter (Chris) Barry, Chris (Amber) Scrupps and Ryan (Kelsey) Scrupps and his nine grandchildren. His sister Joan (John) Sousley and several nieces and nephews and lots of friends. Jay is preceded in death by his wife of twenty years, Kathy in 2013, whom he lovingly argued with daily during harvests. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Fri., May 12, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Heritage Church, Odessa, Wash. Memorials may be made to the OSD Backpack Program, Odessa Athletic Booster Club, or the Odessa Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
