Sub-district determines regional field
RITZVILLE - For the athletes competing at the NE2B Sub-district meet Tuesday, May 9, the goal was simple: Sprinters had to finish in the top eight, and distance/field competitors had to finish in the top four to keep their seasons alive in said events and advance to the 2B District 7 Regional Championships in Colfax next weekend.
This year, coaches and administrators "passed on" the top eight competitors in sprinting events and top 12 competitors in distance running and field events. The top eight were determined by best season marks at a meeting Wednesday, May 3.
For example, the eight top 100-meter dash runners from the regular season automatically qualified for the Regional meet and didn't compete in Ritzville Tuesday.
Seeds 9-24 in sprinting did compete at sub-districts, with the top eight finishers advancing to Colfax. Seeds 13-24 in distance running and field events competed at sub-districts, with the top four finishers advancing.
Additionally, relay events were conducted at sub-districts, but were all exhibition contests and optional for competition.
Here are the Davenport and Reardan results from sub-districts, with those advancing indicated with a "Q" next to their results. The regional meet in Colfax is Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20, with the top 16 athletes in each event set to compete.
The top three finishers in each event at Colfax advance to the state meet in Yakima the following weekend.
