Gorillas fall to Colfax, LRS at districts
MEDICAL LAKE - A rivalry softball game had the opportunity to advance to the District 7 2B playoffs on the line when Davenport and Reardan faced off Monday, May 15. It was the Gorillas who managed to pull away with a 16-6 victory to keep their season alive.
Reardan had opportunities to score throughout the game, loading the bases in the top of the first inning with no outs and coming up empty. Davenport got one in the first to take a 1-0 lead.
The Screaming Eagles got some offense in the second inning with three runs to lead 3-1, but Davenport responded with three runs of its own to lead 4-3.
Back and forth went the rivals, as Reardan scored three more runs in the third inning to just one for Davenport. The Screaming Eagles lead 6-5 heading to the fourth inning.
But four runs from the Gorillas in the fourth and three in the fifth gave Davenport a 12-6 lead. Reardan couldn't score in the sixth inning, and a bases-clearing triple from Kiera Katz and an RBI double from Alyssa Kruger gave Davenport the walk off win in the bottom of the frame.
The Gorillas advanced to face No. 1 Colfax Tuesday, May 16, and the Bulldogs showed a lot of bark and bite en route to a 25-2 victory.
The Bulldogs scored early, putting 17 runs past the Gorillas after two innings. They scored 16 in the bottom of the second inning.
Davenport was forced into a loser-out game against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague, which the Gorillas lost 19-11 to conclude the young Gorillas' season.
The Gorillas finished the season 4-17, while Reardan finished 2-17.
