Arrest made in mail theft case

No charges filed by prosecutor yet

DAVENPORT — A teenager was arrested in connection with several reported mail and package thefts around the city last week. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Anastasia Brandenberg Wednesday, May 17 on charges of second-degree identity theft, second-degree theft and third-degree theft.

However, charges had not been filed with the Clerk’s Office by the Prosecutor’s Office as of press time.

Deputies also requested charges for a 17-year-old girl believed to be involved in the alleged crimes, but such charges are also pending.

According to police records, Heath and Heather Becker of Davenport reported that checks were stolen from their mailbox and deposited under Brandenberg’s name.

Deputy Chris Stein met Brandenberg at the park in Reardan and arrested her after questioning her, according to records.

The next day, Reardan Elementary School staff told deputies another checkbook was found by an employee. One check was written in the 17-year-old girl’s name and another in Brandenberg’s, according to records.

Deputy Brandon Rose searched the minor’s vehicle and found a packing slip under local Kylee Peone’s name, who had reported she had makeup stolen. Medication prescribed to Raaj Ruparel of Davenport, whose wife confirmed had possibly been stolen from their mailbox, was also found in the car, according to records.

Prosecuting attorney Adam Walser said charges are still under review, so no court date has been set nor official charges filed.

“Mail theft is kind of a nuanced thing,” Walser said. “There is more that needs to be worked out before we file anything.”
