Kowalkowski resigns from race

DAVENPORT — Incumbent mayor Brad Sweet no longer has a challenger for the seat in the November general election. J.J. Kowalkowski withdrew his name from consideration last week.

The Davenport School District employee and former employee of the city, originally filed for the seat during filing week earlier this month.

“(My) heart isn’t 100% in,” Kowalkowski said in a text message last week. “That’s not fair to Davenport.”

Sweet, who also filed during filing week, will now race for re-election unchallenged in the general election.
