New site located near baseball fields
REARDAN -At its meeting Wednesday, May 31, the Reardan-Edwall school board approved the transfer of six acres of land to Reardan Heroes, a non-profit organization that will create a memorial to honor World War II Medal of Honor recipient Joe E. Mann and all the veterans from the Reardan area.
The land is located east of town between the high school's softball field and U.S. Highway 2.
The project will include an amphitheater, a walkway listing the names of area veterans, a water feature and an eternal flame in a park-like setting.
"This is a win-win situation for our school and the Reardan Heroes Foundation," school superintendent Eric Sobotta said. "In exchange for the land, Reardan Heroes will allow us the use of their paved parking lot and restrooms for those using our ball fields."
The property will officially transfer to Reardan Heroes after a 45-day waiting period and public advertisement of the transfer.
