Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Sometimes, to better inform the future, we need to learn from the past. And a newspaper tends to be a rural county’s historical record, so turning to the newspaper for that past is a logical step.
Plus, we received many requests to bring back our “Looking Back” section, and the Lincoln County Historical Society recently reached out with several interested writers hoping to contribute historical articles covering our area.
So, this summer and starting this issue, we’ll have a weekly section featuring a contributed historical article and the revitalized “Looking Back” section that I’ll compile.
Several have already volunteered to be writers. This week, check out an article on the Odessa Historiches Museum contributed by Judy Scrupps.
Local writers, some of whom are heavily involved with the Historical Society and some are outside, thus far include Scrupps, LaVon Stiles, Kirk Carlson, Brian Curtis, Debrah Schultz and Gabe Gants.
But we are still looking for other writers who might be able to volunteer a historical article this summer, particularly if you’re located in the Harrington/Odessa/Sprague area of the county.
Ideally, the 12 historical articles this summer will cover as much of our coverage area as possible, including seldom-covered rural areas like Mondovi, Earl, Rocklyn, Edwall and the like. We likely won’t achieve this goal perfectly, but we’ll do our best. And that result depends on receiving contributions from those areas, as all the historical articles will be written by guest writers. Email me at drew@cheneyfreepress.com or call our office if you’re interested in contributing.
So starting this week, enjoy a weekly look into the past of Lincoln County.
