Evelyn Jean (Bell) Oehlschlaeger, 97, passed away June 20, 2023, She was born Jan. 9, 1926, at home on Christiansen Road to Florence (Lehman) and Lawton Bell. She attended grade school in a one-room school house in Four Mound, Reardan High School and Kelsey Baird Business College in Spokane. While being raised on a wheat and dairy farm, she herded cows on her horse, Mickey, with the help of dogs Tippy and Benny.
She and Glenn Oehlschlaeger were married in the Reardan Emmanuel Lutheran Church in 1946. They lived and farmed in the Crescent area since the early 1950s.
Glenn died at home in 2008.
Her parents, sister Eileen and brother Bobby, all died early in life. After receiving Jesus and being baptized, her passion and prayer was for all to hear the gospel and to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Her children are Christy (Steven) Meltzer; Craig (Marlene) Oehlschlaeger; Jan (Ed) Oehlschlaeger-Browne and Jill (Doug) Morgan. She was blessed to be Grandma Evy to 18 grandchildren and GG to 26 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many good friends who shared her life in Reardan.
Internment at West Greenwood Cemetery on July 1 with family attending, followed by a celebration of life at the Reardan Presbyterian Church at 1pm., reception following in the church.
The family extends blessings to all the staff at Cheney Assisted Living for their loving care the past four years, and to Hospice of Spokane for guiding Mom and us through the last weeks.
