City Council passes four ordinances

Logan Street vacation denied

DAVENPORT — City councilmembers were in favor of four ordinances placed before them at a regular meeting Wednesday, June 28, but were unanimously opposed to one.

Council denied vacating a portion of Logan Street near First Street and the Black Bear Motel for property consolidation as requested by Mark and Kim Elwood. Councilmembers had previously indicated their opposition to relinquishing the parcel from city ownership at the June 14 council meeting during discussions.

However, council did approve vacating two parcels in that area not on a city street for the Elwoods.

Council also unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Daniel Yarbrough to host a food truck, Rafa’s Tacos, on his 51 Morgan Street property.

The six present councilmembers approved the first reading of a budget amendment allowing for the city to receive funds from a Transportation Improvement Board grant totaling $236,200 to repave 10th Street and Adams Street.

Prep work is done, but the project hasn’t gone out to bid, city administrator Steve Goemmel said.

Finally, council approved applying for a Dept. of Transportation Aviation grant totaling $13,234 with a $1,000 match, which Goemmel said would be used to extend Municipal Airport electricity to supply power for electric vehicles or electric airplanes.

A finance committee meeting was scheduled prior to council’s regular meeting Wednesday, July 12 to hear and discuss requests for funds from Lincoln County Museums and the Davenport Senior Center. That meeting is at 6 p.m., while council’s regular meeting is 7 p.m. in City Hall.
