Swimmer drowns in Lake Roosevelt

DAVENPORT — A swimmer that was reported missing Sunday, July 2 was found deceased after washing up near a cabin by Laughbon Landing on the Spokane arm of Lake Roosevelt in the morning of Tuesday, July 4.

28-year-old Kyle O’Malley of Spokane was the missing swimmer, officials said. A friend called 911 reporting him missing after he began swimming Sunday.

Crews from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Spokane Tribal Police, National Park Service and Spokane Dive Rescue began a two-day search for the swimmer Sunday, which ended in tragedy on the Fourth of July.

Laughbon Landing is located just south of Porcupine Bay, a popular recreation and camping area on the lake.
