Budget update: Harrington School District

HARRINGTON — The 2023-24 budget was approved by the school board at a regular meeting Wednesday, July 26. The district is budgeting for $3,918,824 in expenditures and $3,745,919 in revenue, with a beginning fund balance of $402,188 and ending fund balance of $229,283.

The budget was created on a predicted enrollment of 104 K-12 students, 18.002 certificated employees and 12.453 classified employees.

Expenditures by program groups include:

• $1,881,352 to regular instruction

• $108,363 to federal special purpose funding

• $289,640 to special education instruction

• $184,388 to vocational instruction

• $247,950 to compensatory education

• $50,000 to other instructional programs

• $30,528 to community services

• $1,126,603 to support services

Expenditures by activity groups include:

• $2,243,679 to teaching activities

• $310,369 to teaching support

• $736,279 to other supportive activities

• $238,173 to building administration

• $400,324 to central administration

Expenditures by objects include:

• $1,492,247 to certificated salaries

• $691,230 to classified salaries

• $925,797 to employee benefits and payroll taxes

• $323,696 to supplies, instructional resources and noncapitalized items

• $483,554 to purchased services

• $2,300 to travel

Projected revenues and other financing sources include:

• $353,062 in local taxes

• $75,960 in local nontax support

• $2,320,542 in general purpose state funds

• $636,334 in special purpose state funds

• $341,925 in special purpose federal funds

• $18,096 in revenues from the ESD

Special purpose state funds break down as follows:

• $171,213 for special education

• $88,896 for learning assistance

• $50,000 for special and pilot programs

• $12,000 for food services

• $314,225 for transportation operations

Special purpose federal funds break down as follows:

• $85,980 in ESSER III funds

• $33,805 in ESSER III learning loss funds

• $36,551 for supplemental special education

• $66,421 for disadvantaged ESEA

• $14,365 for school improvements

• $85,000 for food services

• $5,000 in USDA commodities
