Council passes six-year street plan

DAVENPORT — City council completed its annual task of approving an updated six-year street plan at a regular meeting Wednesday, July 26.

Most projects are pending application, but some for 2023 have received necessary funding to proceed.

Approved and funded projects include:

The second phase of building a trail from the baseball fields along State Highway 25 to Morgan Street for $325,000 in federal grant funds.

Improving 10th Street from Morgan Street to Adams Street for $115,000 in Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant funds.

Improving Adams Street from Seventh Street to 12th Street for $122,000 in TIB grant funds.

Three projects have been applied for but have yet to be funded:

An airport precision approach path indicator for $150,000 in Federal Aviation Association grant funds.

Building a truck route alley from Third Street to 12th Street for $1,500,000 in federal grant funds.

Building a bridge over Cottonwood Creek on First Street for $1,000,000 in Dept. of Ecology grant funds.

All other projects approved Wednesday are still pending application.

2024 projected projects include:

Improving Logan Street from Sixth Street to Eighth Street for $150,000 in city and grant funds.

Reclassifying McInnis Road and Fitness Lane for $10,000 in city and county funds.

Improving First Street from Main Street to Marshall Street for $150,000 in city funds.

2025 projected projects include:

Citywide gravel road improvements for $30,000 in city funds.

Improving Marshall Street from Seventh Street to 12th Street for $394,500 in grant funds.

Improving Marshall Street from First Street to city limits for $109,600 in city funds.

2026 projected projects include:

Improving First Street and Second Street from Main Street to Adams Street for $25,000 in city funds.

Improving Adams Street from First Street to Third Street for $15,000 in city funds.

Improving Third Street from Main Street to Lincoln Street for $750,000 in grant funds.

2027 projected projects include:

Improving Morgan Street from Second Street to city limits for $435,700 in grant funds.

Improving Merriam Street from First Street to city limits for $109,700 in city funds.

2028 projected projects include:

Improving Wheatland Road from Lincoln Street to city limits for $410,900 in city funds.

Improving First Street from U.S. Highway 2 to Park Street for $225,000 in city funds.

Improving Logan Street from 13th Street to 14th Street for $75,000 in city funds.

In other business last Wednesday, council approved a change to the city personnel manual to add the job description of a Water Operation Manager and a resolution to designate 711 Morgan Street to be leased to prospective businesses on a month-by-month basis.

Two interested tenants have approached the city about the former Davenport Police Station, staff said Wednesday night.
