Green hired as baseball coach

REARDAN - At their meeting Wednesday, July 26, the school board approved the hire of Robert "Bobby" Green as the new high school baseball coach for the 2023-24 school year.

Green grew up in Alabama, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He served in the Air Force, retiring in 2014.

After retirement, he coached Little League baseball in Sprague.

For the past four years, he has been an assistant coach for the Screaming Eagles baseball team. Last year he also served as head coach for the Reardan Middle School football team.

He replaces Matt Clouse, who coached baseball in the district for 21 years...the past eight as the high school coach.

"Matt was a great coach to work for," Green said. "I hope to continue the successful program that he built."

Green said he is a fan of "small ball," which is an offensive strategy that emphasizes putting runners on base and then advancing them into scoring position via smart base running and situational hitting.

"I love old school baseball, which includes playing great defense," he said.

Green's goal for next year is to improve on last season's 6-12 record and sixth place finish in the NE2B conference.

"I have a great group of kids coming back next season," Green said. "We have some very talented juniors and seniors. I am fortunate that we are as much a family as we are a team. I know my guys will be there for each other, not only on the field but also in the classroom."
