Fruitland woman killed in Davenport crash

Young man injured in wreck, discharged from hospital

DAVENPORT—One Fruitland woman was killed and a Fruitland man was injured in a one-vehicle crash six miles north of the city on State Highway 25 Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Melinda S. Curd, 53, was pronounced deceased at the scene after authorities ruled her red 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck left the highway at milepost 5.8, crashed into power lines and vaulted into an embankment around 2:57 p.m. Tuesday, according to a State Patrol press release.

Next of kin was completed by family members, the release said.

21-year-old passenger Robert F. Abrahamson was injured and airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, but he was later discharged, the hospital confirmed.

Neither person was wearing a seatbelt. Authorities haven't determined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to the release.

The crash caused a small brush fire that was quickly extinguished by crews, while power went out in areas of North Lincoln County for several hours before it was restored by Inland Power workers on scene.

State Highway 25 was closed in both directions for over an hour following the crash Tuesday.
