100 years ago

Lincoln County Clerk Fred B. Squire died from illness at age 54.

Miss Edna Graham was hired by Davenport High School to teach bookkeeping, shorthand, typewriting and senior English, while Miss Margaret Clancy was hired to teach freehand drawing.

Work on the concrete foundation for the additional electric generating unit of the Long Lake power plant of the Washington Water Power company was completed.

75 years ago

Over 5,000 people attended the Lincoln County Fair, which included two parades, a crowning of Fair Queen Selma McDowell of Creston, a football game between Davenport and Lakeland Village and several carnival rides.

A Lincoln County resuscitator helped save the life of Almira’s Pearl Anderson, who suffered a heart attack.

106 students enrolled in Davenport schools for the new school year.

50 years ago

Two Lincoln County Jail prisoners escaped from jail, stole Terry Buchser’s station wagon and burglarized the Davenport Rexall Pharmacy.

Kent and Lynn Hatfield assumed management of Davenport’s department store from Terry and Bea Buchsser.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz visited the Stuhmiller’s farm near Edwall.

25 years ago

Lincoln County voters prepared for a primary election that would decide the race between Dan Berry and John Coley for Sheriff and Paul Gilliland and Linda Fisher for Treasurer.

Enrollment declined in the Davenport School District by 22.5 students from the prior school year.

Three sightings of a pair of cougar-sized black cats were reported north of Lincoln Hospital.

Grand Champion livestock showcasers at the Lincoln County Fair included Marcus King of Odessa for beef, Josephine Clemenson of Sprague for goats, Lillian Nowlin, Whitney Bjornberg and Samantha Cotter for horses, Jakin Griffin, David Eldridge, David Hayashi and Spencer Webb for poultry and Colton Cotter of Lamont for sheep.

22 children participated in a 31-day reading program in Sprague.

Groundbreaking for the Inland Northwest Rail Museum outside Reardan was planned.
