Scheller designs Fest T-Shirt

Series: Deutschesfest Supplement | Story 4

ODESSA - A former resident and professional graphic designer was the mastermind behind the design of this year's Deutschesfest T-Shirt.

38-year-old Jesse Scheller, now of Spokane, created the logo that he called a "marriage" between Odessa's wheat farming and German heritage and rock-style bands that frequent the Biergarten at Deutschesfest.

"We felt it met people right in the middle," Scheller, who grew up on the family farm near town until 2006, said.

The shirt features the Fest logo with an eagle based from the Holy Roman Empire and German Nation. The eagle's talons are grasping bushels of wheat, with a shield in front displaying, pretzals, bier and the sun rising over a wheat field.

The faded dark gray design of the shirt is accented by lightning bolts surrounding the eagle design.

Scheller created the design after helping Fest officials with a redesign five years ago. In March, he started his own graphic design company.

The T-Shirt will be for sale in the Biergarten at this year's Deutschesfest Sept. 14-17.
