100 years ago

The Lincoln County Medical Society met in Harrington to endorse a goitre prevention plan that would give small iodine tablets to children each week.

Smoked glass, old photographic films and colored glasses were in great demand as locals clamored to view a solar eclipse.

Jesse Logsdon pleaded guilty to counterfeiting money and was sentenced to one day in jail.

75 years ago

4,000 people attended the 9th annual Lincoln County Fair. Community Grange’s float took first prize, while Bluestem Grange’s float was second.

Davenport city council cut $12,915 from the annual budget, bringing the tentative 1949 budget to $63,430.

Davenport football easily defeated Lakeland Village 24-10 in its first game of the season.

50 years ago

An Everett man was killed after falling out of a train traveling eastbound through Lamona.

Davenport gas stations closed for two days in protest of new federal regulations regarding gas prices.

A stolen 1972 Buick belonging to Terry Buchser was returned after two inmates that had stolen the car were arrested in Kittitas County.

25 years ago

John Coley defeated incumbent Sheriff Dan Berry in a race for the position, while Linda Fisher defeated Paul Gilliland in a race for county Treasurer.

Sprague Mayor Evalyne Tabor survived a recall hearing after Superior Court dismissed recall charges against her.

Public Works Director Bob Breshears petitioned the county commissioners to expand the county Transfer Station west of Davenport.

Davenport Food Mart closed suddenly as the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into the store’s acting manager.

Momentum began to build for a new youth health program, “Lincoln in Action.”

Harrington Food Store was placed on the Historic Properties Register.
