Reardan loses to Jenkins

CHEWELAH — The Screaming Eagles football team fell to Jenkins High School 14-7 Friday, Sept. 15 in NE2B action.

Quarterback Rysen Soliday scored Reardan’s sole touchdown on a 12-yard scamper. He also completed eight passes for 166 yards.

Blake Wynecoop was on the receiving end of one of those passes, gaining 54 yards. Evan Krupke caught three passes for 68 yards and Jakari Singleton caught two for 36 yards.

Despite the loss, Reardan head coach Matt Clouse thought his team played with greater toughness than they had earlier in the season.

“Our defense played well enough to win this game, but we left some plays out on the field on offense and special teams,” he said.

After a crucial mistake by the Screaming Eagles special teams, Jenkins scored a quick touchdown.

Clouse praised his team for their response to Jenkins’ touchdown.

“Our boys marched down the field mixing in play action passes and runs by Evan Krupke, Zander Thornton, and Tate Nelson,” he said. “Jakari Singleton had a huge catch from Rysen Soliday and then Soliday capped off the drive by scrambling into the end zone for a touchdown.”

Reardan mounted several other long drives but could not get into the end zone when Jenkins’ defense stiffened.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how our boys respond this week,” Clouse said. “You could tell after the game that this one was burning in their gut.”

The loss dropped Reardan to 1-2 on the season. Jenkins improved to 2-1.

The Screaming Eagles’ next game is at home Friday, Sept. 22 against Colfax. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
