Reardan thumps Kettle Falls in soccer

REARDAN - Led by junior Noelle Raczykowski's four goals, the Screaming Eagles cruised to a 7-0 win over Kettle Falls in a NE2B girls soccer game Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Before the game, Bulldogs head soccer coach Shylean Hanson said she believed her winless team had a chance to pick up their first win of the season.

For the first 10 minutes of the game, it appeared she was correct.

Raczykowski proved otherwise.

With 18:20 remaining in the first half, she fired a laser shot into the net to put Reardan up 1-0.

The dam burst when Raczykowski found the Bulldogs' weak spot, the center of the field, and fired another ball into the net with 30 seconds remaining in the half.

In the second half, Raczykowski started where she had left off. Four minutes in, she added her third goal and one minute later, her fourth.

With 35 minutes left in the game, Reardan's lead grew to 4-0.

With 14:10 left in the game, Raczykowski found Alsept lurking near the Bulldogs' goal and hit her with a perfect pass that Alsept punched in for a score to make it 5-0.

Bjornberg scored a goal with 4:50 left in the game when she found the corner of the net from 15 yards out.

Sophomore Kaitlin Butterfield put the icing on the cake with her first career goal. From 15 yards out, she fired a ball that ricocheted off her opponent's leg and into the net.

Raczykowski gave credit to her teammates for the win and for each playing the entire 40 minutes.

"I thought our passing was really good," she said. "I know everyone got tired, but I'm just happy

they are all here."

Raczykowski said one highlight of the game was Butterfield's score.

"Kaitlin said today that she wanted to get a goal this season, and she got it."

After the game, Alsept approached Butterfield with a high five.

"Congratulations," she said. "We tied for second highest scorer."

The win improved the Screaming Eagles' record to 2-3. Kettle Falls dropped to 0-7.

Reardan next plays St. George's at home Saturday, Sept. 30.
