Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT - The Gorilla soccer team has grown from a young, up-and-coming program to a potential state contender in a matter of weeks. Davenport went 3-0 in the last week, including two wins over teams ranked in the Top 10 in state RPI.
First up was a home tilt with lowly Kettle Falls Thursday, Oct. 5.
The Gorillas scored early and often, as Glenna Soliday got behind the defense and finished in front of the net nine minutes in. Six minutes later, she arced in a shot from 15 yards right extended to make it 2-0.
Emma Harvey's assist then gave Soliday a hat trick that took 18 minutes to accomplish, then Jensyn Jacobsen curved in a high arcing shot and Samantha Stiles finished a corner from Soliday to make it 5-0 after 27 minutes of play.
Jacobsen converted a penalty kick, Charlotte Soliday scored a cross from sister Glenna before the elder added her fourth goal with six minutes left as the Gorillas won 8-0.
"We've been working on quick passes, and after that loss to Northwest (Christian), our talk is aggressive," Davenport head coach Monty Soliday said.
Davenport then hosted previously undefeated Tonasket and shut out the Tigers 4-0 Saturday, Oct. 7.
Glenna Soliday scored another hat trick and tallied an assist, while Charlotte Soliday added a goal off an assist from Jacobsen.
And Davenport finished off its perfect week with a 1-0 win over No. 8 Highland in a neutral game in Moses Lake Monday, Oct. 9. Glenna Soliday scored a 22-foot goal with two minutes left for the game's only goal, while backup goalie Tessa Cormier pitched two consecutive shutouts in Addie Schneider's absence over the Tonasket-Highland stretch.
"(This stretch) will help us even more to get toward the playoffs," Glenna Soliday said after the Kettle Falls game.
Davenport next has a massive league tilt at home against St. George's at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.
