Collier leads Benham in R-E Board race

Dougherty routing Bennett for FD4 commish

REARDAN-Lane Collier had a comfortable lead over Brian Benham in a race for the Reardan-Edwall School Board Seat No. 4 after the first election count Tuesday, Nov. 7. Collier leads 392 votes to 280.

Both men are running for their first appointment to the Board.

Collier, a locomotive engineer, had just a slim 126-114 lead in Lincoln County over Benham, an IT service desk manager in Spokane Valley. But the margin was wider in Spokane County, where both candidates live.

There, Collier had 392 votes to Benham's 280.

Elsewhere in the greater Reardan-Edwall area, incumbent Jerry Dougherty had a lopsided lead over challenger Dawn Bennett in a race for Fire District No. 4 Commissioner No. 3. Dougherty had 168 votes to Bennett's 57.

Lincoln County's next voting count is Thursday, Nov. 9, while Spokane County released a second count after press time Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Candidates released the following statements after first returns were announced:

Jerry Dougherty

"The final count is not in but, regardless, I appreciate all the votes I received."

Lane Collier

"Thank you to our community members for casting their ballots this election cycle. While the final results of these elections may be days or weeks away, I would like to take this time to give a special thank you to all the community members that voted for me in my bid for the Reardan Edwall School Board Position 4."
