Schafer leads Deife in Odessa School Board race

Weishaar, Crossley win re-election

ODESSA-Two incumbents appeared to have secured comfortable victories, but one challenger was the favorite to unseat another incumbent in three contested School Board races after first returns Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Longtime Board member Ed Deife trailed Zach Schafer 230 votes to 153 in the race for Director No. 2.

Schafer, a relationship manager and loan officer for AgWest Farm Credit, had 211 votes to Deife's 142 in Lincoln County. Schafer led 13-7 in Adams County and 6-4 in Grant County, as well.

Deife has been on the School Board for 13 years.

The other Board races weren't close.

Carmen Weishaar was on her way to a comfortable victory in the race for Director No. 3. Weishaar, the incumbent, led challenger Amanda Wallace 331 votes to 52. She led 305-52 in Lincoln County, 18-0 in Adams County and 8-0 in Grant County.

And incumbent Christine Crossley was similarly in a lopsided lead over Cory Kramer in the race for Director No. 4, leading 317 votes to 66. Crossley led 291-64 in Lincoln County, 20-0 in Adams County and 6-2 in Grant County.

The next vote count is expected Thursday, Nov. 2.
