Reardan hosts "Maroon Madness"

Basketball teams introduced

REARDAN - Inspired by Gonzaga's annual "Kraziness in the Kennel" fan event held by the Bulldogs prior to each college basketball season, the Screaming Eagle basketball teams and school district held the first installment of "Maroon Madness" Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The event allowed local hoops fanatics to be introduced to the girls and boys teams before students head off to Thanksgiving break.

The night started with superintendent Eric Sobotta introducing each player as they ran out of the locker room through a tunnel created by the cheerleaders amidst applause from the crowd.

Pat Hogan then put his title of "No. 1 Fan" to work by helping the cheerleaders lead the crowd in the Reardan fight song.

The girls and boys teams faced off in various shooting competitions, including a spot shooting contest and a 3-point shootout. Those competitions sandwiched a dance contest between teams, in which Jonathan Holdway guided the boys through "Beautiful Girls," while Tenice Waters guided the girls through "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)."

Through applause, the girls were declared dancing competition victors.

Head coaches Bob Swannack and Jake Green, as well as Sobotta and athletic director Kenton Clairmont, each briefly addressed the fans. Hogan then returned for another Reardan fight song rendition.

Reardan opens its season against Deer Park at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30.
