DAVENPORT - Success in the classroom and in athletics can often lead to opportunities to compete after high school. That's the case for several locals who are currently or will be participating in collegiate athletics this school year, whether it's at the Division I or community college level.
Here's a look at some of those athletes from Davenport, Odessa and Reardan that local schools and coaches informed The Record-Times of.
• Tennessee Rainwater is in his freshman season for the Utah Tech men's basketball team. Rainwater is averaging 13 minutes a game through six games and has tallied nine total points.
• Winston Telford just finished his senior season for the Eastern Oregon cross country team and will be a distance runner for the track and field team this spring. He placed 67th overall on the seventh-place Eastern Oregon men's team at the NAIA 2023 National Championships.
• Lainy Jacobsen will be in her senior season as a javelin thrower for the Eastern Oregon women's track and field team this spring.
• Evan Gunning will be in his freshman season as a hurdler for the Eastern Oregon men's track and field team this spring.
• Brenick Soliday is in his freshman season on the Citrus College men's basketball team, a community college team in Southern California. Soliday has appeared in six games and has scored 10 total points and grabbed 16 total rebounds.
• Jett Nelson is in his junior season as an infielder on the University of Jamestown baseball team. Nelson batted .364 with 12 hits and six RBI's in eight fall games.
• Ashlyn Neilsen is in her freshman season for the Whitworth women's basketball team. She is averaging four points per game in just over 10 minutes of action per game through three contests.
• Grace Nelson is in her freshman season for the Skagit Valley College women's basketball team. The Cardinals are 2-1 so far this season, but haven't listed individual statistics on their website.
• Kimberly Dewey is in her senior season for the Whitworth women's basketball team. She is averaging 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game through four games played.
• Vaea LaMoureaux is in her freshman season on the Umpqua Community College women's wrestling team.
• Ayden Krupke is in her sophomore season on the Bushnell University women's basketball team. Krupke is averaging 12.5 points and five rebounds per game in six games.
• Ella Curry is in her sophomore season on the Everett Community College women's basketball team. Curry has appeared in two games this season and scored two total points.
