100 years ago

Robert Cress, who was charged by Lincoln Co. officers with breaking into the Sheriff’s Office and stealing 26 cases of bonded whiskey, was apprehended in British Columbia for stealing liquor from a whiskey runner.

Evan Wyatt of Tyler was fined $200 and given two months in jail for selling moonshine at a dance in Tyler, even though he claimed he was just making a little Christmas money with the sale.

The Davenport High School debate team of Phyllis Wilson and Clifford Halfhill defeated the Reardan team of Iris Littell and Crawford Burns.

Santa Claus, aka Gordon Krupke, appeared in Reardan as guest of the Reardan Service League, while Fred Fredericks snapped pictures of children with Santa.

A brightly decorated house at Third and Maxwell was robbed of its Christmas lights in Davenport.

The Harrington School District implemented a stricter policy for bus inspections.

Davenport City Council approved a $13,000 project for the state to resurface Park Street from Seventh Street to Harker Street.

David Lundgren resigned as Lincoln County Conservation District manager and was replaced by Elsa Bowen.

Students at Harrington Elementary School celebrated Christmas by constructing gingerbread houses and snowmen.

“Baby’s First Christmas” photos and “Letters to Santa” from local elementary schoolers dotted the newspaper.
