Commissioners to resolve budget next week

Meeting recessed to Dec. 28

DAVENPORT —The Lincoln County Commissioners have until the end of the year to ratify the 2024 county budget, and plan to do so with three days to spare. The commissioners recessed their regular meeting Monday, Dec. 18 to Thursday, Dec. 28 in order to approve a finalized budget.

The county usually faces a budget gap between its revenues and expenses. This year is no different, with the gap being about $1.4 million.

Commissioner Rob Coffman said that gap may fluctuate a bit between now and Dec. 28 and will be closed with reserve funding, as is typical practice.

The Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Dec. 28 at the Courthouse for the budget meeting.

In other regular business Monday morning, the Commissioners approved several resolutions, agreements and appointments.

Stan Reider of Davenport was appointed to the County Board of Equalization, while three resolutions to grant a budget extension to the 2023 current expense budget, declare surplus property in Superior Court and declare surplus property in the Commissioner’s Office were also approved.

Later, the commissioners approved the following appointments:

• Matthew Bridges as corrections/dispatch deputy

• Justin Wynecoop as patrol deputy

• Geoffrey Williams as corrections/dispatch deputy

• Patrick Kirby as special deputy prosecutor

The commissioners also approved several miscellaneous items, including:

• An increase in the facilities/grounds supervisor wage scale.

• A contract renewal with Municipal Resource and Services Center.

• Liquor and cannabis license renewal notifications from the state Liquor and Cannabis Board.

• Master optical fiber and facilities leases with Newsmax LLC dba Intermax Networks and Computer 5, Inc.

• A right-of-access agreement with Lincoln Hospital in Wilbur.

• Amending the interlocal cooperation agreement for telecommunication services with Petrichor Broadband.

The commissioners learned the following items during appointments Monday:

• Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area superintendent Dan Foster will retire, effective Dec. 30.

• A community meeting regarding a Sprague Lake Hydrologic Assessment will be held at the fire station in Sprague at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

After the budget is approved, the commissioners won’t meet again until the New Year. The first meeting of 2024 is at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.
