Carol Anne Hyde Bodeau
Oct. 26,1937 – Dec. 19,2023
Carol Anne Hyde Bodeau was born in Spokane, Oct. 26, 1937 to life long Almira farmers, Maurice and Dorothea (Midge) Hyde. After living with Parkinson's Disease for 17 years, she made her final journey to the lord Dec. 19, 2023. She attended Almira schools and served on the Associated Student Body, Salutatorian her senior year and as a cheerleader where she caught the eye of her high school sweetheart Dean Bodeau, whom she married July 16, 1955. They were married 68 years and together raised four children on the family farm.
When she had young children she became involved in the Pre-School Mother's Club raising funds for kindergarten and teacher's salary before it became part of the public school system. She then went on to serve the Wilbur School boosters, working on the Wild Goose Chase fundraiser for 20 years. She helped bring Grandparents Day to Wilbur Schools, volunteered at the school and 4-H events.
Carol was a member of the Washington Wheat Growers Association and helped educate city families about the importance of farming and the farm life style through the Farm/City Swap program. In 2006 the Bodeau family farm was honored as Washington State Small Business of the Year. She was a 5th year degree in Wilbur Grange, served as President of the Sacred Heart Alter Society.
She was involved in the development of the Wilbur Cemetery Association for 32 years. As a 13 year Lincoln Hospital Commissioner, she championed the building of the Wilbur Vista Manor assisted living facility, where she was a resident for nearly 7 years. In 1990 she was honored as Wilbur Person of the Year for her volunteer work.
Carol loved Christmas, decorating their home for the holidays, including a large Dicken's Village Collection, sharing co-president responsibilities with Dean for their Spokane Village Club.
Dean and Carol were passionate travelers, traveling throughout the country together in their motor home from Alaska to Florida, the Oregon Coast, and spent many a 4th of July at Keller Ferry with family and friends.
Carol enjoyed going to Chelan for Rural Hospital Association conferences so much they decided to treat their family to a 50th wedding anniversary trip, which resulted in an 11 year family tradition.
All were welcome at her table, where she served harvest crews, family and friends fantastic, hardy meals, completed with her specialty cherry pie with cherries from the family garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marcia and grand daughter Megan Bodeau.
She is survived by her loving husband Dean, 4 children, Deanne (Joel), Brian (Jana), Todd (Joyce), Brad (Lori), 10 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, brother Gary Hyde (Bev). The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Vista Manor for their kind, compassionate and thoughtful care.
Mass will be held Saturday Dec. 30th, at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilbur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carol's name to the Wilbur Cemetery Capital Fund or Community Swimming Pool Foundation or charity of your choice.
