Central Committee elects delegates

Selections made at caucuses

DAVENPORT — The Lincoln County Republican Central Committee held county caucuses at three locations in conjunction with the state Republican Party, electing delegates from voter precincts as allowed by attendance Saturday, Jan. 13.

Many voter precincts didn’t have a Republican attend, while others had multiple attendees and were therefore able to elect delegates and alternates.

Those elected as delegates can attend and vote at the county Republican Convention at the Courthouse March 3.

Several of the attendees at Saturday’s caucuses are precinct committee officers and are therefore already eligible to attend and participate in the Convention.

Saturday’s caucus locations were divided by County Commissioner districts. Those in District No. 1 joined Jo Gilchrist at Harrington School, District No. 2 met with Scott Hutsell in the Commissioners’ Chambers in Davenport and District No. 3 met at the Wilbur Community Hall with Rob Coffman.

The commissioners commented at their regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 16 that they had an equal number of attendees (12) at all three caucuses.

At Gilchrist’s caucus in Harrington, six of the attendees were precinct committee officers, including Denise Wollweber of Canby, Carol Paul of Edwall, Michael Hardy of rural Harrington, Peter Davenport of Harrington, Mike Melder of Lamona and Kim Ramm of Odessa.

Elected delegates included James Els of rural Harrington, Charles and Dianne Sanchez of Harrington and Michael Bishop of Waukon. Craig Madsen of Waukon was named an alternate.

Enos, Wilson Creek, Irby, Layton, rural Odessa, Downs, Earl, Mohler, Sprague, rural Sprague, Bluestem, rural Davenport, Gravelle and south rural Reardan weren’t represented.

Hutsell’s caucus included committee officers Janene Warner of Davenport, Art Deppner of Mondovi and Jerry Schulz of Reardan. Sheriff Gabe Gants of Davenport also attended as an elected official.

Elected delegates included Janene Stewart of Davenport, Frosty Freeze of Mondovi, Leanne Merkel of Reardan, Jeff Gaw of East Larene and Allan Coxon of Long Lake.

Alternates included Michael Smith of Davenport, Doug Ensor of Mondovi and Ross Cooper of East Larene.

West Larene, Wheatland, Spring Creek and north rural Reardan weren’t represented.

Delegates elected in Coffman’s caucus included Joe White of Hawk Creek, Dugan Blechschmidt and Jan Horlacher of Riverview and Don Sieverkropp of Wilbur.
