Davenport takes fourth in Tonasket

Gustaveson, Schillinger win classes

TONASKET - The Davenport boys wrestling team attended the Apple Pie Invite and came away with a fourth-place team finish. The Gorillas scored 87 team points to finish ahead of 12 schools and behind Tonasket, Cashmere and Okanogan Saturday, Jan. 13.

Davenport was aided by the first-place individual finishes of two wrestlers.

Wrestling at 165 pounds, Brody Schillinger took first place and scored 25 team points by defeating Darrington's McKinlee Green 13-3, beating teammate Solomon Holmberg by no contest and pinning Okanogan's Ayden Grooms in 1:09.

And at 190 pounds, Brock Gustaveson notched another first place finish and 28 team points by pinning Cashmere's Zennon Cortes in 3:58, Okanogan's Oakley Bonewell in 1:07 and Reardan's Sterling McLaughlin in 3:48.

Wayland Holmberg scored 17 points for the team by finishing second in the 120-pound class. Holmberg pinned Manson's Quahlani-Joseph Sanchez in 0:40 and defeated Darrington's Bryer Wesson 14-3. He was then pinned by Okanogan's Tanner Grooms in 1:09 in the first-place match.

Gabriel Carey finished in fourth place and scored 13 points in the 150-pound class.

Carey was pinned by Lake Roosevelt's Francis Louie in 1:33 before pinning Oroville's Mathias Hamilton in 0:53 and Liberty Bell's Liam Kiefer in 2:40. He was then pinned by Cashmere's Wyatt Weatherman in 1:39.

Brendon Peters-Biggs scored four team points by pinning Cashmere's Jonah Frost in the 132-pound class. He was then pinned by Cascade's Tristan Sharpe in 1:30 and defeated 12-6 by Republic-Curlew's Tristan Hall.
