Presidential primary candidates named for both parties

OLYMPIA — After the Washington State Democratic Party submitted their candidate names following the five names submitted by the State Republican Party, presidential candidate lists for the March 12 presidential primary were finalized Tuesday, Jan. 9.

According to the Office of the Secretary of State, Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie will be the Republicans on the ballot.

Current President Joe Biden and challengers Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson are the Democratic candidates on the ballot.

Since then, three Republicans have announced the suspension of their campaigns. Christie announced he was dropping out of the race Jan. 10 and hasn’t endorsed a candidate, though many of his supporters consider Haley the better option over Trump.

Ramaswamy suspended his campaign Jan. 16, and DeSantis dropped out of the race Sunday, Jan. 21. Both endorsed Trump.

The Lincoln County Republican Convention will be nine days before the presidential primary. It is planned for March 3 in the County Courthouse.
