Districts take place Saturday in Spokane

COULEE CITY - The wrestling regular season concluded with league duals at Almira-Coulee-Hartline High School Saturday, Jan. 27. There, the Reardan boys took third place and the Davenport boys took fourth place in the Southeast B bracket.
Liberty took first place in the bracket, while Northwest Christian was second. Eight teams were part of the Southeast Bracket.
Selkirk won the Northeast B bracket, with Republic taking second, Chewelah finishing third and Kettle Falls in fourth.
Davenport and Reardan dueled to start bracket play, with the Screaming Eagles getting the win. Reardan then lost to Liberty in the semifinals.
Davenport defeated Asotin and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in the losers bracket to get to the third place match, while Reardan beat Colfax in the losers bracket to force a rematch with Davenport in said third place match.
There, Reardan once again got the better of the Gorillas.
Prior to league duals, wrestlers from Davenport, Reardan and Harrington students playing as part of the Lind-Ritzville sports co-op participated in a mix-and-match at Colfax High School Tuesday, Jan. 23.
In local results:
• At 106 pounds, Reardan's Joey Matusik pinned Liberty's Chance Degon in 2:20 and NWC's Micah Rocha in 1:18.
• At 120 pounds, Reardan's Alex Matusik pinned Davenport's Damon Dolhay in 1:35 and Noah Everett in 2:16. Dolhay was also pinned by NWC's Nokoa Rocha in 1:24, while Everett was defeated 22-5 by LRS's Waylon Rosman.
• At 132 pounds, Davenport's Brendon Peters-Biggs pinned Liberty's Wyatt Rosman in 1:00 and was pinned by Colfax's Dillon Gassenberg in 4:32. Reardan's Carson Kline pinned NWC's Nik Bahktin in 0:52.
• At 144 pounds, Turner Slack of Harrington was pinned by Colfax's Alton Burt in 0:22 and Liberty's Thorne Tissue in 0:38.
• At 150 pounds, Reardan's H.K. Bird was pinned by NWC's Aiden Indahl in 1:31 and Asotin's Noah Saltz in 3:46.
• At 165 pounds, Davenport's Solomon Holmberg pinned Pomeroy's Kole Zimmerman in 0:43 and Waitsburg's Victor Whitmore in 1:22.
• At 190 pounds, Davenport's Carl Medhaug defeated Asotin's Carter Bowman 14-7, then was pinned by Colfax's Isaac Nelson in 0:50. Davenport's Brock Gustaveson pinned Pomeroy's Curtis Winona in 3:25 and defeated LRS's Gabe Smith 15-8. And John Branham of Harrington was pinned by Nelson in 1:06.
Local wrestling attention now turns to the Spokane Convention Center, site of Sub-Regionals for both boys and girls wrestlers. All healthy wrestlers will be competing.
The top four finishers will advance to the regional tournament the following week, where qualified individuals will be wrestling to move on to the State Mat Classic.
Saturday's wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
