100 years ago

• President Woodrow Wilson died at his D.C. home from illness and was succeeded by Calvin Coolidge.

• Former Lincoln County Commissioner and Edwall pioneer Hugh McNeilly died at his home after attending an Edwall Odd Fellows meeting where he was presented with a medal in honor of his 41-year membership with the Fellows.

• Westbound passenger trains were delayed in Wilbur after tracks were washed out by flooding.

75 years ago

• Lincoln County crews prioritized their snowplowing schedule by where emergencies were occurring, taking several emergency calls to open roads when a resident needed to get to the hospital.

• Traffic on Sunset Highway was stalled and eventually the road was closed while strong winds creating snowdrifts made it challenging to clear the highway. 46 inches of snow were on the ground by this point.

• $3 million worth of cattle were sold at the Davenport Auction, auctioneer and founder Lew Hutsell reported.

50 years ago

• Frank and Jouette Leavell took over the former Don’s Thrift from Don and Pat Smith, while Mr. and Mrs. James Boyles bought Guiseppe’s Café from Joe and Randa Guercio in Davenport.

Reardan school board members met to set the school levy estimate at $154,000.

• The Harrington school board approved a $125,000 special levy for collection to replace an $85,518 levy voted on the previous year.

25 years ago

• Thomas Lawrence, Shane Oberst and Patrick Fitzgerald of Spokane were arrested in connection to a residential burglary west of Sprague.

Reardan was moved back to a B school for athletics after competing in the Northeast A league for two school years.

Davenport Police Civil Service Commission heard the appeal of fired police officer Mike Sullivan, who had sued the city for $3.5 million.

10 years ago

• Lincoln County voters favored a Reardan-Edwall School District bond proposal by 56%, while Harrington voters approved a 2-year maintenance and operations levy by 74%.

• County and state roadways flooded after warm temperatures defrosted snow and ice. One lane of State Highway 25 closed for a six-mile stretch due to water, while State Highway 231 closed from Sprague to Reardan.

• The Lincoln County Commissioners held a public hearing about a proposed “stock-restrictive” area on two open range parcels near Egypt.
