Odessa boys fall at Districts

Tigers end season 11-12 after loss

INCHELIUM - The Odessa Tigers fell 64-59 in a loser-out game against Republic in the boys District 7 1B Basketball Tournament Saturday, Feb. 3.

After trailing 15-12 after one quarter of play, Republic played back-to back 20 point quarters to take a 53-42 lead over the Tigers going into the fourth quarter.

Odessa's Jacob Scrupps scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the last frame, but it wasn't enough for the Tigers to pull out the win.

Corbyn Neilsen and Dakota Steward scored 12 and 10 points for Odessa. Zach Claassen, Sean DeVore and Chad Strebeck scored nine, four and three points, respectively.

Vincent Carillo scored 20 points for Republic, followed by Lincoln Short, who had 16.

"Republic has two solid guards and a long, big kid who blocked and changed a lot of shots," Odessa head coach Mike Carlquist said. "Our kids fought back from 14 down to cut it to three. We just couldn't make enough plays to complete the comeback. This is a very special group of young men. I'm proud of their effort."

The loss ended Odessa's season. They were 11-12 overall and 5-8 in the NE1B League.
