Local author publishes book

DAVENPORT - A local woman has published her second book. Bonnie Sedgemore, who has lived in Davenport for nine years, had "Conflicting Emotions" hit the virtual and in-person bookshelves Friday, March 1.

The fictional book follows the story of Olivia, a woman struggling with illness and the loss of relationships with her children. She meets a "friend," Jolene, who is battling her own demons with alcoholism, and Olivia is forced to navigate the complicated emotions of that relationship and the other severed relationships in her life.

Sedgemore, 83, said the fictional book was partially inspired by her own struggle with empty nest syndrome when her four now-adult children flew the coop for the first time.

"We don't write something we don't know anything about," Sedgemore said. "You love your children. You would do everything for them, then they're gone."

This is the second book Sedgemore, a former newspaper reporter in East Texas, has had published. "The Price of Love," published in 2022, tells the story of a little girl whose mother gives her away. The girl goes through 12 foster families before deciding to set out on her own while attempting to reconcile with her birth mother.

Sedgemore said she's written up to eight other books that haven't been picked up by a publishing company yet.

The 264-page "Conflicting Emotions" is published by New York City-based publisher Austin Macauley and is available on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble, as is "The Price of Love."
